More memory for my laptop
So two days ago I ordered 64GB of memory for my laptop. It is two modules where each one is 32GB. I got a Dell XPS 15" 9510 that has two removable memory slots. Some laptops these days have soldered on memory slots that really sucks. Making them removeable is, from my perspective, very convenient and necessary. Manufacturers should do that - all of them. The next part came with opening up the bottom of my laptop. The procedure for it could have been made better, because the bottom was really really tight connected to the rest of the computer. I saw some videos on YouTube about removing the bottom and some of them recommended using your nails to get in between the bottom part and the rest of the computer. I cut myself underneath two of my nails trying to get a spatula (yes, a kitchen spatula) between the bottom and the rest of the computer. It hurt like hell!
But I opened it, removed the two memory modules from their slots and then inserted the two 32GB memory modules. Getting the bottom connected to the computer, was really easy. I put in the screws and that was it. My computer booted up fine, however the computer entered the BIOS automatically to tell me , that the memory modules were replaced. I just clicked on continue and then that was it. My main operating system recognized the 64GB of memory and I was happy.
I’m grateful that companies like Dell, Lenovo etc. make replaceable memory modules on their laptops. I just wish that they could’ve made the bottom easily removable. It really hurt cutting myself right underneath my two nails. There are two modules that I want to replace: WiFi-card and the harddrive. It is not that I need that much space, but there are faster and better M2 drives. The WiFi-card works well but not good enough in my opinion. Intel Wifi-cards should work well from what I’ve heard. They are not that expensive either - maybe around 200 - 300 DKR. One thing that prevents me from going ahead with the change is that is probably going to hurt again somewhat.
I just love having 64GB of memory instead of 16GB. I can really feel the difference.
